Who We Are
The Washington Dairy Products Commission is a chartered agency of the State of Washington, created by an act of the state legislature in 1939. Its mission, as mandated in its enabling legislation, is to promote the sale and consumption of dairy products manufactured in Washington and to inform and educate the people of Washington about dairy products, dairy farmers and the dairy industry. In pursuit of these goals, it conducts year-round advertising, public relations, market promotion and public education programs. The Commission uses no public monies to fund its operations; instead, 100% of its activities are funded by dairy farmers themselves through a mandatory assessment on the milk production of all dairy farms in the state. This mechanism was established by Congress in the federal Dairy & Tobacco Adjustment Act of 1983. The Commission’s activities and operations are supervised by a Board of Commissioners appointed by the Director of the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
